I am a huge fan of Halloween. Anyone who knows me knows this. Basically any holiday has me in a good mood; Christmas, Halloween, Valentine’s Day… You name it!
While I plan my costume weeks in advance, I know there are some who need a little push or some inspiration to think up their costume. This year I’ve already seen some of the most ridiculous and offensive costumes in stores and online. For example there’s a “sexy undecided voter” (who I guess is supposed to be Ken Bone), a Kim K inspired “Parisian robbery victim” costume that has actually been removed from sites, and even “sexy corn” (I don’t even know) – not to mention some of the horrid ones I’ve seen in the past (who remembers the Caitlyn Jenner and Ebola costumes?).
When I was younger I always wanted a new costume from the store, but as I’ve grown up and realized how ridiculously expensive they are, I’ve started DIY-ing parts of costumes or using pieces I already own to make it myself. Lots of sites will give you the same costume ideas, but sometimes you don’t want to dress up like Wednesday Addams or Holly Golightly for the fifth time. Whether you want to save a little money, or need something last minute, here are some ideas of Halloween costumes you might find hiding in the back of your closet!
- Chanel Oberlin or Chanel #3 from Scream Queens
This is definitely one of the easier costumes considering these items are very on trend right now. Bonus points if you match with a friend to be Gigi and Kendall!
4. Luna Lovegood or any other Hogwarts student
Honestly I have done this costume before, but it was so fun that I’m putting it up here. There’s actually a photo of me dressed as Luna Lovegood in my grade 12 yearbook!
5. Ariana Grande
This one was also inspired a little from Scream Queens, but I based this look on Ariana’s music video outfits. Don’t forget her signature hairstyle!
6. Blair Waldorf/Constance Billard Student
This costume uses similar pieces to the Luna Lovegood costume. Hands up if you were totally into the headband trend because of Blair Waldorf (I’m definitely in that club!)
7. Beyonce in the Hold Up video
This video gave me life this year. Yes Bey. Throw on a ruffled yellow dress, grab a bat and crimp your hair for this costume.
8. Juliet from Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet
One of my fave cartoons growing up! This would be super cute as a group costume too. In an old house in Paris that was covered in vines, lived twelve little girls in two straight lines…
Witch costumes may be a popular choice, but they never go out of style! There are so many different witches you can dress up as, but here I chose to go for pop culture references. The Craft girls are an awesome choice with their 90’s style, or you can be more recent and dress as the next Supreme from American Horror Story: Coven, which is a little simpler.
Comment below with what you’re dressing up as this year!
