The holiday season has always been a favourite time of mine. All throughout December there’s a certain feeling in the air, and everyone seems a little kinder (besides angry people at the mall). For me, the Christmas season has always been comforting because of the traditions my family and I have each year, like decorating the house and making my wishlist. Since this year has been full of change for me, I’m taking time to visit the familiar and make sure my Christmas traditions stick around.

I am one of the few people who loves to wrap presents. For some reason, I’ve always made it into an occasion and had a whole night of it. I put on a Christmas movie, drink hot chocolate, and wrap my gifts to go under the tree.

I always watch a ton of Christmas movies in December. I make a list of the classics (over 25 of them I might add), and go through the list to get in the festive mood. Some of my all time favourites are Love Actually, The Muppet Christmas Carol, The Polar Express, and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. I also really love watching these movies on my VCR instead of streaming them. There’s just something so nostalgic about a movie on VHS! Leave a comment on this post if you want to see my whole list of Christmas movies!

One tradition I miss is when I was younger I used to go to the Santa Clause Parade with my Dad every year. We used to stand on the steps at the church across the street from his store, drink hot chocolate and watch the floats go by. After the parade, we would always go to Chapters to buy a Christmas book. Although I’m grown up now, and this tradition can no longer go on, I’m thinking of my Dad and our fun Christmas’ by using the books he bought me as my coffee table books this season.

A more recent tradition in my family is our Christmas PJs. Every Christmas for the past 6 years, Santa has brought me and my siblings an early gift of PJs to open on Christmas Eve. Every pair that I have received from Santa have been two piece flannel PJs with dog patterns on them, so now I have a collection going. I don’t know how Santa manages to find dog PJs every year, but he never fails!
